A mugging victim turned the tables on his attacker after a robbery near a Jersey City PATH station Tuesday night, police said yesterday.

The victim, a 26-year-old Wayne Street man, told cops he'd just left the Grove Street PATH station about 11 p.m. when a man - later identified by police as Jose Marte, 25, of Westervelt Street - walked up and asked, "Don't I know you?"
 
The Wayne Street man walked away, but Marte followed him onto the street, then attacked him and after a struggle, Marte pulled out a razor and slashed him across the left arm, then grabbed his wallet and ran, the victim told cops.

Despite his wound, the Wayne Street man chased Marte - through a sandwich shop, back through the PATH station and again out into the street, reports said.

Marte jumped into a cab, but the driver - seeing his fare was being chased - said he didn't want any trouble and wouldn't drive. A Jersey City cop then arrived and arrested Marte, police said.

Marte is charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The knife was recovered, but the wallet - along with $590 in cash and other valuables it contained - was not, police said.
