Alice Corp ready to ride in the pink stretch limo for her 90th birthday surprise 
NINETY-year-old Alice Corp had the surprise of a lifetime when she reached her landmark birthday.

For unbeknown to wheelchair-bound Alice, who lives in Walton House Nursing Home in London Road, Shenley, one side of her family had arranged a huge surprise for her.

Not only did her daughter-in-law Cathy, her sister and husband and Alice's four grandchildren and their partners travel from Ireland for her birthday but they had arranged for a cerise pink stretch limousine to take her from the home to lunch in Radlett.

The only key member of the family missing from the celebration was Alice's son Brian, who was in hospital at the time and unable to travel.

Alice, who lived in St Albans until she broke both her hips and went into Walton House, has three sons and a large family.

Granddaughter Julie Corp-Hefferman explained that Brian, her dad, had moved to Ireland 35 years ago and the family had got together to come up with the surprise for Alice, who was still well enough to travel to Ireland to see them all up until two-and-a-half-years ago.

Julie said: "We had a hell of a lot of champagne and wined and dined her. We drove around for an hour and then had dinner at lunchtime in the Red Lion. She was just in awe and beamed for the whole day.

"The next morning she said, 'I just can't believe I enjoyed myself so much', and that said it all. My dad was very disappointed that he was not able to come. It was very memorable.
